brothers gonna work it out

7 July, 2008

So July’s been, in just the seven days it’s been around, much better than June.

I started out by going to Lipstick, which was covered in the last post. Since then, the birthday boy and I have been talking kind of a lot. Maybe I should think up a name for him… Wednesday was low-key; there was some fairly awkward time spent with !Kung for her birthday, but not much else. Thursday I went in for my follow up appointment and then rendezvoused with Anton to hang out before Electroshock.

We met at Temple… True love is closed, thank god. I wanted to get Cuban, so we ended up going to this little place in midtown where I bought him a far too expensive mojito and myself even more expensive shit. Oh well. It was the first time I’d seen him since he left for NJ and the drama directly previous, so I wanted it to be good, and it was. I got a text from L2 requesting that A call him for some completely superfluous information regarding the phone he was picking up in West Bourgeois.

Anton left, I met Rochelle at Streets of London. Got a free pint from a stranger, saw some guys dressed as Mario and Luigi, came back to A already being at the club. Whoops.

The dance night was basically a long story short, as very few people showed up. Kieran was there… it didn’t feel awkward at all, but he was full of compliments, so that was nice. I enjoyed myself, but then L2 emailed A with this really passive-aggressive email and somehow we ended up hanging out.

We went to Safeway for a beer run… or, I guess, I did. Anton went to get food and L2 went to follow A around like a lost puppy dog. I don’t know why he even came out (well, it’s obvious, really, but whatever) but I figured I should be the nice guy. We ended up at Rochelle’s, as she’d given me her place for the night. Anton and I had muffins, and then he settled on the couch to play with his phone.

Which left me to talk with L. So I tried, of course… I’m sure he still hates me, and that’s why he was being so reticent, but even so, I was trying so, so hard to get him to say something that wasn’t banal… I asked him what kind of reading he did, what kind of activities he did, and all I got was Sparknotes and volleyball. Christ, Anton was in his own little world with his new phone and I still got relevant conversational input from him. It really was like pulling fucking teeth.

They left around 3. L2 gave A a ride to his scooter, I asked them to text me when they got home. No such luck. Shrug. Ended up passing out on Rochelle’s bed, but not before killing my phone responding to text messages from that guy.

The next day I finally struggled home after Rochelle came back and we regaled each other with our respective nights. Isis and I went out to prepare for the party… I was originally going to go all out with decor, but my preternatural laziness took over. Rosalia and Hank came over to hang out for 4th of July, but I was on the phone the entire time with a friend of !Kung’s explaining how !Kung was, in fact, being unreasonable (drama drama drama not going to go into it).

And then there was the party. That gets it’s own post, as I’ve still not quite recovered.
